The Image

The fruit has ripened. Everything that the season's growth was building toward has been achieved, gathered, completed. And now: the fruit decays, as fruit does — and in the moment of the decay, for a brief period, the seed is visible. The seed that was hidden inside the fruit all along. The seventh thing, concealed within the six-fold completion, appearing now as the specific, creative, generative essence of everything the fruit was.

The six circles touch the circumference of the larger circle. The seventh occupies the centre — not touching the outer boundary, not visible from the outside, but present at the core of the entire configuration and containing, in potential, everything the next cycle will unfold.

Libra 1° showed the perfect form preserved by the dart — the static perfection of the immortalised archetype. Libra 2° shows what happens next: the transcendence of the static perfection through the dynamic process of creative centralisation. The pinned butterfly was the fruit. The seed within the butterfly — the specific, generative, creative essence of what the butterfly's perfection contained — is now the seventh: the hidden centre that becomes the foundation of the new cycle.

The fruit decays. For a brief moment the released seed may be seen. This is the threshold — the specific, brief, irreplaceable moment in which the seed is visible between the completion of the old cycle and the beginning of the new one.

The Archetype

The contrast with Libra 1° is deliberate and precise. The first stage of the thirty-seventh sequence was static: the perfect butterfly preserved by the dart, the immortalised form, the archetype fixed at the moment of greatest achievement. The second stage is dynamic: the transmutation of the fruits of past experiences into the seed-realisations of the forever creative spirit. The static perfection is now transcended — not destroyed, but transcended — through the specific, inward, creative movement that Rudhyar calls centralisation.

The numerological structure Rudhyar attends to carefully: the six represents completion, the synthesis of spirit and matter, the fulfilment of all past effort. Solomon's Seal — the six-pointed star, descending spirit and ascending matter in perfect equilibrium — is the symbol of the six. And at the heart of the six-fold completion, hidden and central, is the seven: the Atma Vidya, the unformulatable truth of the Self, the specific, creative, transcendent essence that both includes and transcends all six approaches.

Jung would read this through his concept of the Self as the seventh — the centre that is not one element among the six but the central, organising, all-inclusive reality that the six approaches point toward without ever fully containing. The creative centralisation that Libra 2° describes is the psyche's specific move from the six-fold outer expression (the fully developed, perfectly formed individual of the Virgo journey) to the seventh inward centre (the Self as the creative source from which the next cycle will unfold).

The shadow Jones named: a loss of reality in an infinitely regressive otherworldliness or a total lack of all practicality — the person who has encountered the threshold between the six and the seven and has retreated into the seventh as an escape from the six, who has used the language of the transcendent to avoid the genuinely demanding engagement with the actual world that the creative centralisation requires. The otherworldliness that is really a failure of nerve.

The Taoist Current

Chapter 11 of the Tao Te Ching: Shape clay into a vessel; it is the space within that makes it useful. The seven is the space within the six-fold form — the empty centre of the six circles that makes the entire configuration functional. The creative centralisation that Libra 2° describes is the movement toward this centre: the recognition that the truly generative, truly creative dimension of the completed fruit is not its outer form but the seed at its core.

Chapter 42: The Tao gives birth to one. One gives birth to two. Two gives birth to three. Three gives birth to ten thousand things. The seed that is released from the decaying fruit is the one — the specific, irreducible, creative unity from which the next ten thousand things will arise. The six-fold completion of the previous cycle was the ten thousand things; the seventh seed is the return to the one from which the next ten thousand will come.

Chapter 52: Return to the source. Returning to the source is called stillness. The creative centralisation is this return — not the return of defeat or exhaustion but the return of completion, the voluntary movement back toward the source that is also the preparation for the next emergence.

The Yi Jing Resonance

The primary hexagram is Hexagram 2 — Kun (The Receptive) — the complement of Libra 1°'s Qian. Earth above earth — the image of the pure receptive, the specific, fertile, patient, inwardly rich quality that receives the creative force and makes the new cycle's emergence possible. The seed that is released from the decaying fruit falls into Kun: the receptive ground, the pregnant darkness, the specific quality of the inward creative centre that holds the seed until the conditions for germination are right.

The commentary says: the receptive. Supreme success through perseverance of the mare. Carrying earth on the back of heaven. The seventh seed, released from the six-fold fruit, is carried by the mare — the specific, patient, receptive, genuinely generative quality of the creative centre that does not force but receives and holds.

The shadow hexagram is Hexagram 1 — Qian (The Creative) — which was Libra 1°. This is the shadow here: the person who remains at the level of the static creative perfection of Qian without making the transition to the dynamic receptivity of Kun, who holds onto the form rather than releasing it to find the seed within.

The Philosophical Content

Hegel earned his place here through the specific dialectical structure of his system — which is the six-to-seven movement in philosophical form. The thesis produces the antithesis, the antithesis is resolved in the synthesis, and the synthesis becomes the new thesis of the next cycle. The six-fold fruit is the thesis carried to its fullest expression; the moment of decay in which the seed is visible is the dialectical Aufhebung — the specific, dynamic transcendence that simultaneously negates, preserves, and elevates the completed form.

For Hegel, the Absolute Spirit moves through exactly this rhythm: the full expression of each form, followed by the specific, dynamic, creative movement that transcends the form while carrying its essential truth forward. The seventh seed is the Absolute Spirit's specific, essential truth gathered from the six-fold fruition and ready for the next cycle's expression.

Blavatsky — whose Secret Doctrine is the direct source of the racial evolution framework that the original symbol invokes — would bring the specific, esoteric context: the seven root races of human evolution, each representing a different level of manifestation of the human archetype, each carrying forward the essential achievements of the preceding race in the seed-form that becomes the foundation of the next. The transmutation of the sixth to the seventh is the specific, cosmic, collective version of the creative centralisation that Libra 2° describes at the individual level.

The Evolutionary Astrology Lens

Jeffrey Wolf Green would read Libra 2° as the soul's evolutionary arrival at the specific, dynamic process that follows the static perfection of Libra 1°. After the butterfly has been pinned — after the perfect form has been immortalised as the archetype — the next evolutionary movement is the release of the seed from within the form: the creative centralisation that turns the completed individual achievement into the generative potential for the next cycle.

The South Node pattern here often carries the memory of having achieved the six-fold completion — the full expression of the individual potential across many lifetimes — and of having either failed to release the seed (clinging to the fruit's form rather than allowing the decay that reveals the seed) or of having released the seed prematurely (the otherworldliness that retreats to the seventh before the six have been genuinely completed).

The North Node invitation is toward THRESHOLD — Jones's keyword — in its most dynamic and most creative form: the specific, brief, precisely timed moment in which the seed is visible between the completion of the old cycle and the beginning of the new one. The imaginative sweep of man's vision and the eagerness to execute its promise — the capacity to see the seventh within the six and to carry it forward as the creative foundation of the next emergence.

The Buddhist Dimension

The Buddhist concept of śūnyatā — emptiness, the specific quality of the centre that is not a thing among things but the absence of fixed selfhood that makes genuine creativity possible — is the seventh's deepest philosophical counterpart. The six-fold fruit has the specific, solid, clearly defined form that the six approaches to truth and reality produce. The seventh seed has śūnyatā: the specific, fertile, generative emptiness at the core of the completed form that is not the absence of reality but its most creative and most essential dimension.

The concept of bardo — the transitional state between one manifestation and the next — is the threshold of Libra 2°: the specific, brief, liminal period in which the fruit has decayed and the seed is visible before it falls into the ground and begins the new germination. The bardo is not empty — it is the most richly creative moment in the entire cycle, the moment in which the essential qualities of the completed expression are gathered and carried forward in the most concentrated possible form.

What is the seed in your fruit?

The six-fold achievement — the completed expression of who you are, what you have developed, what the Virgo journey has produced — is the fruit. It is real and it is beautiful. And within it, at its core, hidden and central and not directly visible from the outside, is the seventh: the specific, creative, generative essence of everything the fruit was, now concentrated into the seed that will become the foundation of the next cycle.

The threshold of Libra 2° asks: can you feel the seed? Not as an abstract possibility — as the specific, creative, already-present reality at the core of your completed expression. The thing that all six aspects of your development were always pointing toward, that the six approaches to your own truth were always circling around without quite reaching, that was always there at the centre and becomes visible now as the fruit completes its decay.

Rise up light as a feather. As the source material closes — and the image of Maat's feather is precise: the feather against which the heart is weighed in the Egyptian underworld. The heart light enough to rise. Not the heart emptied of genuine substance but the heart that has transmuted its weight into the specific, light, generative quality of the seed — all the essential truth of the completed cycle, concentrated into the minimum possible form, ready for the next emergence.

The fruit does not cling to its form. The seed does not mourn the fruit. The transmutation is the threshold.
