The Essence
- Venus stops on a degree about damage that gathered unnoticed, so what she reviews is maintenance rather than desire.
- What a person values shows in what they tend, not in what they say they care about.
- Decay in a bond, like decay in a tooth, is the product of small compromises nobody noticed making.
- Repair is still available here, and it costs more than care would have.
- Admiring the fix without asking why it was needed is the shadow this degree warns against.
- The backward motion reviews what was valued, not what was merely enjoyed.
- What returns comes back for assessment, not automatically for restoration.
- Scorpio asks what an attachment rests on, so the review starts where it is least comfortable.
- Prevention is no longer the option on offer; an unflinching reckoning is.
- The pattern that produced the damage matters more than the damage.
Venus stops moving forward on 3 October 2026 at 07:16 UTC and begins six weeks of retracing her steps. She re-enters Libra on 25 October and stations direct at 22°52' Libra on 14 November, which falls on the evening of 13 November in American time zones.
She stops at 8°29' Scorpio. Under the convention Marc Edmund Jones and Dane Rudhyar used, a degree counts as complete once it has begun, so this is the ninth degree of Scorpio, and its Sabian symbol is a dentist at work. Of the 360 images in the series, Venus has chosen to stand still on the one about decay that gathered quietly until somebody had to intervene.
The Degree She Stops On
A station is the most concentrated moment in a retrograde cycle. The planet holds one degree for days rather than hours, and whatever that degree describes gets pressed into the chart with unusual weight.
This one describes damage that accumulated through ordinary living, left until repair was the only option still on the table. Jones gave it the keyword practicality and grounded it in self-renewal through steady attention on every level of effort. Its positive expression is ingenuity put at someone else's service. Its negative is a shrug that accepts the makeshift and then admires it.
Venus governs what a person values, what they find beautiful, and what they are willing to pay for in money and in attention. Stationing here, she asks something narrower than the usual retrograde questions about love and money. Which of the things you value have you been maintaining, and which have you been leaving until something breaks?

The Arc She Travels
On 23 October, Venus meets the Sun at 0°45' Scorpio, the midpoint of the cycle, on the image of a crowded sightseeing bus: a degree about taking in a whole city from behind glass without stepping off to touch any of it. Two days later she crosses back into Libra, and from 24 October Mercury is retrograde too, so conversations about all of this will circle back on themselves.
She comes to rest at Libra 23°, where a rooster announces a sunrise that was coming anyway. From a degree about repair, past a degree about watching life through a window, to a degree about saying something out loud. That is the shape of these six weeks.
What a Review Is For
The popular account of Venus retrograde is a list of prohibitions: do not marry, do not sign, do not cut your hair, brace for the return of an ex. Some of that caution is sound. Agreements made while the planet of value moves backward often get revised once it turns around, because the valuing itself is still in motion.
But a review is not a repetition. What distinguishes them is that something gets assessed rather than simply relived. The ex who returns is not a verdict; the returning is the easy part. Deciding what, if anything, was worth keeping is the work, and Venus does not do it on anyone's behalf.
Erich Fromm argued in The Art of Loving that we treat love as a feeling that happens to us rather than a practice we are either good or bad at, which leaves a culture obsessed with being loved and almost untrained in loving. On a degree about dentistry, the claim lands precisely. Nobody expects teeth to stay sound through good intentions, and Fromm's point is that nothing else does either.
Hannah Arendt named two capacities that exist because action cannot be undone. Forgiveness releases us from what has already happened; promising gives us a fixed point in a future nobody controls. Both have to be spoken to someone. Six weeks of reviewing the past is exactly the territory she described: what happened cannot be unmade, and what remains available is whether to release it and whether to promise something new about it.
Laozi puts the mechanism briefly in the fortieth chapter of the Tao Te Ching: returning is the motion of the Tao. Not a fault in the system, and not an interruption of progress. The Yi Jing says the same in Hexagram 24, Fu, the Return, where a single light line reappears at the base after a dark time, and the commentary insists the turning point must not be forced. For a six-week retrograde, that reads less like metaphysics than like practical advice.
The Work
What have you been valuing in principle and neglecting in practice?
The dentist's degree does not ask you to feel differently about anything. It asks what you have been maintaining. A friendship runs on contact. A body runs on sleep and food and movement. A relationship runs on the unspectacular work of being told the truth and telling it back. None of these announce the moment they begin to decay, which is exactly why they decay.
So notice what you have been putting off, in the most ordinary sense: the conversation, the invoice, the appointment, the apology. Let what returns come back without deciding at once what it means. And resist concluding anything about value while the planet of value is still moving backward.
The repair is available. It simply costs more than the care would have, and the next cycle is built out of whatever gets tended now.
